Call most New Jersey Magicians or Family Entertainers and ask the question, “Can you perform your show outdoors?”, and they will answer with one word, “NO”. As the Spring and Summer months approach I get this question asked daily! My answer is “Yes” I can perform for your outdoor event and below are some of the ways to ensure that my show will be successful for your outdoor party. My first suggestion when planning an outdoor party and you are thinking of hiring an entertainer is to ask first! When scheduling an outdoor party I bring a show that will ” Be Successful” in an outdoor setting. This means using props that won’t blow away, tip over, and using a portable, battery-operated, wireless sound system so I can be heard. If I plan to do my regular Birthday Magic Show and arrive at your house and then you ask if we can do the show outdoors it is much harder for me to accomodateyour needs. My second suggestion is to always have a back-up plan in case of rain, heavy winds, extremely hot temperatures, or other concerns, such as a neighbor who decides to cut the grass during the show! The bottom line is that a Magic Show will always work best in a controlled setting (ie: indoors) where factors like wind, direct sunlight, bees, and noise can be better controlled. Here are some things to keep in mind when hiring an entertainer for outdoor events:
Place the entertainer in the shade
Do your best to place the entertainer on level, solid ground.
Try not to have the kids sitting facing the sun.
Keep water activities (ie: pools, sprinklers, water guns) away from the performance area.
Start the party with the entertainment so that after the show the kids can run around and play. If they start with games and running you will never get them to sit and watch a show.
Be prepared for your entertainer to make the final determination if their show can be performed outdoors when they arrive and always have an indoor (backup area) ready…just in case!
Keep in mind many Birthday Magicians and Entertainers perform between 2-4 shows a day on the weekend. When it is 90+ Degrees out it is not easy to be outdoors, in the sun, all day long. So always ask first, be prepared to move the show indoors, and work with your performer so that they can provide you and your family with their best possible performance!

For many years I was asked if I use a live rabbit in my show and the anwer was “no.” Back in September 2008, after many months of research and thinking about it, I added Henry the Magic Rabbit to my show. Not only do children love Henry, but Henry also loves the attention that he gets from children! It’s a magician’s dream come true. I now use Henry the rabbit in all of my birthday and family shows unless a parent requests that I don’t use the rabbit due to a child with allergies or fear of live animals (which hasn’t happened ONCE Yet!) Many magicians only use a rabbit if you book their Deluxe Show and sometimes the only thing “Deluxe” about the show is the rabbit which can cost you $25.00, $50.00, or sometimes even more. To me, charging extra to bring the rabbit makes no sense. If you love to perform and have a rabbit, why leave it home??? That’s just my feeling and I love to see the reactions of children and adults not only as my volunteer makes Henry appear but after the show when they all get to meet and pet him. Henry the Magic Rabbit is a true star and gets his picture taken by more camera phones than some celebrities!!!! If you have been to one of my shows and took pictures of Henry we would love for you to send them to us for our scrapbook and website. Join our FanPage on Facebook and you can upload them yourself!! Over the next few weeks I plan to answer some of the most common questions I hear when booking Birthday Magic Shows and other Family Events. As a magician I get asked all the time, “Is it ok for me to take pictures” or “can my husband video tape your show?” Many magicians in New Jersey would answer this quickly and with one word, “NO!”. I want to make sure that you and your family have a great time and that my show will create lots of fun memories that you can treasure for a long, long time. So, take all the pictures and videos that you want. I would also love if you send me some so that I can add them to my website and scrapbook. I can’t believe the month of January is already half-way over!! It feels like I just finished performing Halloween Shows and it’s already 2010!!! So why am I taking the time to write this Blog Entry Today??? Well, as a magician in New Jersey I am lucky to be able to perform my magic shows at libraries, public schools, pre-schools, and parties in 5 STATES! This week alone, which isn’t even over yet, I have booked 23 shows for the Spring and Summer! The phone has been ringing and emails have been coming in all week asking about available dates for my Summer Programs. So, if you are a parent surfing the web and thinking about having entertainment at your child’s next birthday party, communion, graduation, or other special event, my advice is PLAN AHEAD and Book Now! At least once or twice a week I get a call on Thursday, Friday, sometimes even SATURDAY from Parents looking for entertainment that weekend. As you can imagine, most of the time I am completely booked and can’t help them out. If you have a favorite magician, clown, balloon twister, band, face painter, etc, always remember to call early, lock in a date and time and then relax and rest assure that your child’s next event will be MAGICAL because you Planned Ahead!

Below are the 5 Top Reasons I feel children and their families enjoy my shows:
5: I always arrive early. I have heard from countless parents, teachers, school principals. and librarians who appreciate the fact that I am not only on time, but early. Nothing is worse than the feeling that your performer is not going to show up. By arriving early I can introduce myself, check out the performance area, make any necessary changes such as moving tables, chairs, etc., and be ready for my show without rushing. It’s a win-win situation for both me and my clients.
4: My magic shows are filled with lots of audience participation. This is not only great for the children, but adults love to see their children or students help out during magic shows. Be sure to have your camera ready because there will be lot’s of volunteers when you hire New Jersey magician Steve Woyce!!!
3: Colorful props!!! Some magicians try to bring as little as possible so that they don’t have to make alot of trips in and out to get setup. Other magicians do not specilaize in family shows and use items such as coins, cups, and napkins. Now I am not saying that you can’t use those items and be an unbelievable magician, but I can say from experience (over 15 years worth) that children LOVE fun, colorful props during magic shows.
2: Henry the magic rabbit!!! When people think of magic and magicians they automatically think of a rabbit being pulled out of a hat, however, most audiences have never seen a magician produce a rabbit! Once again, I am not saying that you must use a rabbit to be a good magician, or that by using a rabbit you will become a good magician. What I am saying is that when an audience volunteer makes Henry the Magic Rabbit appear during my show you can see the excitement on the faces of both the children and adults in the audience. Audiences can never get enough of Henry at the end of my show and fortunatelly, he is very patient!!!
1: Comedy and FUN!! My shows combine lots of clean humor and silly situations with volunteers. By making the show fun both children and their parents can’t wait to see what is going to happen next and they forget about trying to figure out “the tricks”
Well, time to get back to work. From comments and letters of reccommendations I recieve this is why I feel children and their families enjoy my shows. I would love to see comments from those of you who have enjoyed my shows and the reasons why!

Hello and Welcome to the blog of New Jersey Magician and Family Entertainer, STEVE WOYCE!!!
I figured as my first blog post I would share some information about myself and how I got started in MAGIC! I have been interested in becoming a magician since I was about 5 years old. My father is a full time magician so magic was everywhere I looked. As a child I would read magic books and watch anything on TV that had magicians, jugglers, or other entertainers. I started performing magic a birthday parties when I was 15 years old at the local Blimpies in Rutherford, NJ. Today I perform throughout New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, and Delaware. Being a magician and performing my magic at birthday parties and other family events is very rewarding especially when I hear comments after a performance from children of all ages that loved my show. Two of my favorite comments have been: “your job looks like so much fun….I want to be a magician like you when I grow up” and “your show made me feel young again” Time to get back to some new show ideas, my next post will be about why I think children and their families enjoy my shows so much!
